Steve Cram - UK London 2012 Ambassador

Steve Cram MBE is the Atos UK ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the run up to and including, the London 2012 Games.


Steve will help bring the Olympic Games experience to customers and employees. He will also explain the importance and relevance to them of Atos' role as Worldwide IT Partner for the International Olympic Committee.

“As a TV commentator at the last five Olympic Games, the technology systems delivered by Atos have provided me with all the information that I need to prepare my commentary and to keep the viewers at home informed of what is happening as the competitions takes place,” said Steve Cram. “I am delighted to be the Ambassador for a company which plays such a critical role in relaying information to the world as the Olympic Games happen and records are broken.”

In a glittering athletics career spanning over three decades, Steve won six gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the European and World Championships. He also claimed world records in the 1500m, 2000m and one mile. Since retiring from athletics in 1994, Steve has co-presented a number of Summer and Winter Olympic Games for the BBC. He is now Chief Athletics Commentator for the BBC and will be commentating at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Steve is chairman of the English Institute of Sport, a nationwide network of sport science and sports medical support services.

Steve’s appointment builds on the existing athlete programme Atos established in 2005 to offer support to young athletes who are the rising stars in their field. Known as the ‘Atos Athlete Bursary’ scheme, it was developed with the support of the British Olympic Association and helps young athletes with practical initiatives such as buying kit (both clothing and equipment), paying training costs and funding competition expenses.


Atos were sponsors of the Steve Cram Celebrity golf day at Tandridge golf club to help raise money for the charity COCO. COCO is a children’s charity working on closely monitored education and healthcare initiatives that make a big difference to the lives of children living in poverty throughout the developing world.

Use I.T. - Commentator Information Systems

Steve has used the Commentator Information Systems (CIS) developed and run by Atos at the last five Olympic Games. CIS displays results on touch-screen PCs in less than 0.3 seconds at the venue broadcast sites. It provides event results to broadcasters before they hear the roar of the crowd. ‘
