From policy to effective action
Government has made significant savings through improved efficiency in recent years. The challenge is for future efficiency measures to go hand in hand with service quality improvements.
Radical strategic change is not required for this to happen. Many solutions that deliver both service quality and efficiency start small – but can be grown successfully.
Large or small, the most effective solutions will draw on the knowledge, capabilities and experience of a range of organisations.
Together, government departments, suppliers and the independent third sector must focus on:
- The cost of outcomes, not inputs
- The citizen at the centre
- Investment in the right areas, by identifying the real demands, needs and priorities
- Technology: a key enabler for change.
