BPO or BPS

Many companies take the view that there’s no difference between BPO (Business Process Outsourcing/Operations/Organisation) and BPS (Business Process Services) and in some of our competitors that’s true. However, such a view can be misleading.

Many companies take the view that there’s no difference between BPO (Business Process Outsourcing/Operations/Organisation) and BPS (Business Process Services) and in some of our competitors that’s true. However, such a view can be misleading.

BPO is historically about saving money by implementing a ‘lift and shift’ FTE-based model in order to offshore processes. Atos BPS looks at the situation differently. Atos BPS starts by putting clients and their customers at its heart, and then considers the whole mix of people, processes and technology, and what the business needs to achieve to deliver truly intelligent operations. We adopt an automation first strategy to service take-on, combining customer experience, transformation, technology ecosystem, analytical insight with a skilled workforce to ensure processes are managed by exception

Consider success as a whole, not just in terms of reduced cost

BPO / BPS and captive shared services have generally delivered significant cost savings to clients. Our view is that whilst savings are an important factor in deciding to outsource, they shouldn’t be the be-all and end-all. We believe BPS should be about delivering sustainable business value and shared outcomes for our clients.

A key enabler of this is ‘smart-shoring’. This involves selecting the right delivery model and the location which fosters greater collaboration and delivers the greatest positive impact. It’s an approach which by combining intelligent IT with intelligent people makes for an intelligent organisation. The result is that our clients end up with a suite of business processes which will help attain and retain business excellence and leadership, instead of just reducing costs.
