Atos assists HMRC to achieve 10% Carbon Emissions reduction Target
Atos worked with HMRC to develop and implement its Green IT strategy, the results of which significantly contributed to the 13.8 % cut in carbon omissions across Government between 2010 and 2011.
Key to success was the fact that HMRC took true ownership for the Green IT strategy developed with Atos and tested the feasibility of the plans and the assumptions which underpinned it at every stage of its development. To ensure the sustainability targets were met, Atos submitted over 200 green ideas .To monitor progress of these, Atos created a unique “green IT model”. This allows HMRC to baseline its IT carbon footprint and then calculate how new Green IT initiatives will help to meet target carbon reductions.
Giles Hutchins, Global Director of Sustainability Solutions at Atos said: “Much of the success of this engagement came as the result of exceptionally close working between us and the client. HMRC has one of the largest IT estates in the world. The opportunity to Green their IT estate is immense. Helping our clients, like HMRC, over-achieve on their sustainability goals is a key part of our innovative approach to sustainability solutions globally. We are thrilled to have played a part in HMRC achieving this remarkable result.”
