Alliance of Market Leaders Provides New Model for Educational ICT Services

London, 15  November 2010

Pearson Education announces today that it has been appointed by Becta as an approved vendor on the ICT Services Framework. The new Framework enables educational institutions to safely and cost-effectively procure integrated infrastructure, connectivity, learning and data services.

The growing role of technology in boosting learner achievement, as well as in helping to improve effectiveness of teachers and staff, is making schools’ ICT more complex and business critical. To meet these challenges, as well as to enable future innovation in ‘digital literacy’, Pearson Education is also pleased to announce its Alliance with Atos Origin, one of the top ICT suppliers to the UK public sector.

In delivering Framework services, Pearson will focus on educational transformation, while Atos Origin leads a best-of-breed supply chain to achieve quality, performance and innovation in applied technology. This unique alliance of market-leading providers enables schools and local authorities to benefit from dedicated, specialist skills providing quality-assured, integrated educational services. In today’s challenging times, schools can also benefit from economies of scale through centrally-provided shared services.

Rod Bristow, President of Pearson UK, said:

"Historically ICT projects have not delivered all the educational improvements promised to schools. While technology has revolutionised many parts of our lives, including the way we work, shop and travel, the education system has yet to grasp all the benefits that technology could offer for our students and teachers.

“Pearson has a proud heritage in creating high-quality resources for teachers and students, in print and on screen, and a reputation for using the benefits of technology to make examinations and marking more reliable, fast and secure. We are very pleased to be appointed as an approved provider to this Framework and to be working alongside an organisation with the world-class capabilities of Atos Origin. Together, we can help schools meet the immense learning and economic challenges that lie ahead.”

Simon Bates, Vice President at Atos Origin said:

“We are looking forward to working with Pearson to enable the education market to benefit from the high quality ICT services we already provide to many public sector organizations, including our existing further and higher education, local government and health clients. Our goal is to deliver long term solutions that are financially and environmentally sustainable for our customers.

“We have created a best-of-breed supply chain, including both Pearson and non-Pearson products, to offer schools choice and flexibility in those elements that matter most to them. For core infrastructure services, we will be offering cost-effective, standardised and secure solutions that meet all schools’ essential requirements. Our delivery model allows safe sharing of user/learner data between services that co-exist and complement each other, taking this burden away from schools.
