Northern Foods selects Atos Origin as preferred IT Application Services Partner
Delivering the third strand of Northern Foods’ Tri-Vendor IT strategy, Atos Origin will provide application maintenance services across all of the 20 factories and office locations (including the HQ in Thorpe Park, Leeds) as well as consulting and systems changes and developments to support planned business requirements. Atos Origin will also take responsibility for the provision of SAP Basis and iSeries support, which is deployed across all of Northern Foods’ businesses.
Northern Foods specialises in the production of branded and retailer own-label food ranges in six key markets: pizza, pastry, biscuits, ready meals, sandwiches & salads, and puddings. It has revenues of around £1bn and employs over 9,000 people at across 20 operating sites across the UK and Ireland. With a heritage dating back to 1853, Northern Foods developed the first chilled ready meal and enjoys a long-standing reputation for innovation.
This contract will enable Northern Foods to reduce the cost of IT operations year-on-year while improving service levels and providing the company with greater access to skills and specialists in SAP and CPG/manufacturing. The IT function will become more proactive within the business and will help drive operational efficiencies and improvements.
David Williamson, Group IT Director for Northern Foods, said: “We are pleased to have appointed Atos Origin as our third strategic IT Service Partner. From the outset of discussions, Atos Origin demonstrated innovation in its approach and services as well as an unparalleled understanding of our business. Atos Origin’s deep manufacturing knowledge, coupled with a powerful business proposition, was key to their selection. We look forward to driving significant business value from this relationship over the next five years.”
Atos Origin’s key challenge was to demonstrate how Northern Foods’ Group IT Division could add tangible value to the broader Operational Business. Its chosen approach will be to standardise, simplify and automate much of the IT landscape that supports the daily Operational Business, simultaneously reducing complexity and cost.
Robert Fairman, VP CPG Industry Services for Atos Origin, added: “We are delighted to be working with Northern Foods. We have a particularly strong heritage in retail, CPG and manufacturing, and this new relationship further strengthens our leadership in delivering business support services. Our thought leadership and considerable sector expertise will deliver technology-driven innovation into the heart of the business, creating the flexibility and agility needed to underpin Northern Foods’ ambitions and plans.”
The services will be transitioned to a front office team based in various UK locations and to a specialist centre in India.
