Atos Origin launches new solution to address critical business issues

Innovative solution delivers the right resources, in the right place at the right time to help UK transport industry save at least £50 million, while improving customer satisfaction
London, 24 February 2010
Atos Origin, an international IT services company and the Worldwide IT Partner for the Olympic Games, today launches Integrale, a new automated IT solution that is expected to cut train delays by more than 2%, saving the UK rail industry at least £50 million each year. It is estimated that it can reduce passenger delays by more than 680,000 minutes, which means a daily commuter will gain a significant number of extra minutes each year.

As the UK’s rail networks become more congested, the potential for delays to spread is huge. Integrale has been designed to work in a very complex business environment with multiple stakeholders. It combines operational information from across the rail industry to provide an overview of how the rail network is performing along with the necessary information to enable more informed decisions and contingency plans. In the recent extreme weather conditions across the UK, Integrale would have helped to reduce the impact of delays and to provide more accurate, real-time information to further improve communication to staff and passengers.

The system which has been successfully trialled in Birmingham with four major UK rail organisations is the latest example of Atos Origin’s commitment to addressing real business needs with viable technology solutions that benefit customers. Integrale could also be used to improve traffic management on roads and provide drivers with the latest traffic news so, if necessary, they can alter the route of their journeys or take alternative transport to avoid delays.

Tony Lacy, General Manager for Transport at Atos Origin, says: “We are constantly developing and trialling pragmatic and cost effective technologies to address the changing issues in the transport sector. Integrale is an innovative solution developed in collaboration with our strategic partners that improves value for our clients and their customers. We see it having a real impact on the transport industry, including playing a role in managing traffic at large sporting and cultural events.”

Lacy continues: “Successful management of service changes and disruption is vital to customer satisfaction, retention and growth. Reducing delays will also save the UK rail industry at least £50 million a year by improving the overall performance of trains, something which is vital whichever Government is in power. There is a need to encourage more people to use public transport, helping play a positive role in sustainability and pick up of public services.”

Atos Origin develops and implements innovative solutions to improve services for passengers and enable them to buy tickets on the move, make seamless connections, travel faster and receive accurate and reliable information for the entire journey wherever they are.
