With a large population of students and young city workers, Reading has an abundance of restaurants and bars as well as well-known theatres
Reading is the home of one of Europe's major annual music festivals ‘The Reading Festival’ which, every year, guarantees the town will be filled with visitors from around the world. With a large population of students and young city workers, Reading’s pubs, wine bars and cocktail lounges are all well represented and there are an abundance of restaurants as well as well-known theatres. There is a well-developed shopping area with three major department stores, John Lewis on Broad Street (often still known locally by its old name of Heelas), Debenhams and House of Fraser. Reading also has a long tradition of rugby, with many clubs in the town and surrounding areas and is also home to a premiership football team.
Where is Reading?
Reading is a town in Berkshire in the South East of England, only around 30 minutes from London, and Winnersh, where our office is based, is only 8 minutes on a train from Reading.
Are there any other grads working from this office?
At Winnersh, we have a good number of grads in our community and we all meet up and socialise as much as possible. We will often get together after work for drinks and even dinner. In work, we regularly meet in our two breakout areas, where people can enjoy tea and coffee and take a break - one of them even has a subsidised branch of Costa Coffee.
Is it easy to travel and park?
The office has a large car park situated directly underneath it. It is also a five-minute walk from Winnersh Triangle station, from which it takes only eight minutes to get to Reading. There are also direct services to London Waterloo every half an hour.
If I move to the area, where are the best places to live?
The nearest residential areas to the office are Woodley, Earley and Winnersh. Housing here is cheap and getting to and from work is extremely quick and easy. Although these are closer, Reading might be more appealing. Alternatively, Caversham is a popular choice, with a good selection of local bars, restaurants and cafés, all within a 15-minute walk of Reading station. There is also a cinema and a bar located within walking distance of the office and a great pub a short drive away. Finally, the Holiday Inn next door has a swimming pool and a full gym where Atos employees enjoy discounted corporate membership.
What are the options for lunch?
Opposite the office is Bistro 415, which serves a selection of hot food and sandwiches. Alternatively, Costa and WH Smith offer a variety of meal deals. For special occasions, there is the Caprice, which serves drinks and meals during lunch and into the evening.
