Darlington offers multiple theatres, live music, comedy venues, bars and clubs and sports galore

Why Darlington?

Darlington is only a 17 minute train ride or 30 minute drive away from Durham which offers breath-taking dales, a dramatic coastline, a vale steeped in history and a vibrant city at its heart. You are spoilt for choice at Durham’s many restaurants, pubs, cafes, tearooms and coffee shops waiting to tempt your taste buds. Newcastle is also within easy reach of Darlington – within only a 30-minute train ride. The vibrant capital of North East England is the place to come for dazzling culture and superb shopping, thrilling sport, great places to eat and one of Europe's best nights out. Darlington is the most invested Borough in the Tees Valley region. The town is currently undergoing investment worth 170 million pounds with the creation of Central Park, a new industrial, residential, cultural and education park to include hundreds of new affordable homes, luxury office space, retail units and a new local centre. The Feethams Leisure project is also close to commencing and is in the final stages of planning for the building of a huge facility to include a new 9 screen Vue Entertainment multiplex cinema, 80 bedroom premier inn hotel, retail and restaurant units, multi-story parking and a new luxury office tower. There are also multiple theatres, live music, comedy venues, bars and clubs and sports galore for the spectator and the enthusiast, with indoor and outdoor facilities for all weathers.

Where is it?

Darlington is a market town in southern County Durham with the closest major cities including Newcastle, Durham and Middlesbrough and slightly further afield Manchester and Leeds. Great transport links make all these cities within easy reach for trips away and nights out.

Are there any other interns or grads working from this office?

We have quite a few graduates based in Darlington, and many teams have actively recruited new grads, so this number is steadily increasing. We try to meet up for lunch regularly and there’s also a social committee running events, so there’ll be plenty of opportunity to get to know people. In total, there are around 130 people in the office.

If I move to the area, where are the best places to live?

Darlington has plenty of accommodation, and it’s fairly cheap. The best initial option is probably to rent a flat in Tillage Green, which is a small new-build development within walking distance of the office. If this is out of your price range, you should have a look at spareroom.co.uk and easyroommate.com, which offer plenty of options. Equally you may want to live in Middlesbrough, Newcastle or Durham - both of which are in commutable distance.

Is it easy to travel and park?

Situated on the East Coast mainline, right beside the A1, Darlington is a very well located town and many of our staff commute each day – it’s an easy drive with relatively little traffic. The office is on an industrial park, so there is a large car park with plenty of capacity, and it’s pretty accessible even if you don’t drive. The nearest station is Darlington, which is a short bus ride away – and the bus passes right in front of the office.

What are the options for lunch?

There is a kitchen if you wish to bring your own lunch. Alternatively, there is a nice (and cheap) sandwich shop about 100 metres up the road, or you can drive into town to find plenty of cafés, plus Subway and Greggs.>
