For the full story about the Atos graduate journey, you need to hear from people who’ve actually been on it.
Year of graduation: 2013
University: King’s College London
Degree: BSc in Information Systems and MSc IT Law and Management
Joined Atos: 2013
Job title: Business Intelligence Analyst
I have a BSc in Information Systems and an MSc in IT Law and Management. I came across an email from Milkround about Atos and thought the subject line looked interesting. I read on and realised that Atos was the sort of organisation that I would want to work for. Atos is a huge company, but you don’t have to worry about getting lost in the crowd. I’ve had lots of opportunities to get involved in projects that make a real difference to the organisation.
I graduated from my masters course in January 2013 and 9 months later I started working as a Business Intelligence Analyst. I was put on an intensive training course in Information Management which helped me learn all the skills I need to do my day to day job. What I really enjoy is being able to work alongside senior management on a regular basis, and that you have contact with clients from the design right through to the delivery.
My job summed up
My role is all about providing tailored solutions to clients to ensure they have access to all of the information they need to innovate, compete, and capture value. I’m continually challenged as I’m close to the technology, developing database, modelling and designing processes, but also use my communication skills and business acumen to make sure the solution appeals to all stakeholders, from middle management to the most senior executives.
Day in the life
I have to have my cup of tea to get me going. Then it’s onto the daily catch up with my team. Most of the time we meet face to face because everyone is currently based in London, but if for any reason someone is at a different base location, it’s via Lync, our call and instant messaging system. These meetings are to ensure everyone is informed on each other’s activities. It’s always useful in such a big company.
I currently develop new Financial Reports as required. I work on an on-demand basis so some days I have no idea what I’ll be coding until I get into the office, which keeps it interesting! As the morning draws into early afternoon, I catch up with the other grads over lunch (outside in the sun if it’s a warm day.)
At 13:30 I’m back from lunch and then I’ll occasionally get involved with supporting the Graduate Recruitment team by attending an assessment centre to tell the candidates about what it’s like on the Atos Graduate Programme. I have various client touchpoints throughout the week and often will need to build a bespoke progress report which we’ll then run through on a call. It’s really important that I can explain complex data in a way that everyone on the phone can understand, so this job has been great for developing my communication skills!
Recently I’ve been invited to help support our Wellbeing at Work programme, a project designed to ensure that Atos is a great place to work, for all employees. It’s been an excellent experience as I’ve been given the freedom to create my own strategy, reaching out to senior managers across different areas of the business for support. I’m the most junior member of the team, so to have been given so much responsibility and getting so much senior management exposure, has been really exciting.
Plan the next day’s activities and round up my work for the evening.
