Enabling digital citizen engagement has been a focus for local authorities for a number of years. Our research allows us to understand what causes citizens to embrace digital technology and what causes them to walk away; insight which will support local authorities in designing truly citizen-centric services.

Demanding Digital in Local Government

There is a clear willingness to adopt digital services in local government

42% of citizens are willing to try a new digital service from a local authority

Age is no longer a barrier to digital adoption

Willingness to adopt local government digital services is equally present amongst citizens over 55 and those aged below 25

However, citizens want the basics to be right first

Nearly half (48%) would like a simpler, cleaner digital experience from local government
