Selina Dhesy

After completing a BSc in Economics at Queen Mary, University of London, Selina joined the 2010 Atos graduate scheme, working in Supplier Management.

Being one of the graduates who joined Atos straight after university, I was incredibly nervous to begin working in the corporate world. Particularly as Atos is one of Europe’s leading IT companies. Luckily the graduate scheme has a great support network in place, from graduate buddies who’ve already been on the scheme, to mentors who have worked within the company for a number of years.

After graduating in Economics I wanted a career in which I could use my analytical and financial skills. I also wanted to work with a variety of people in a dynamic environment. Working in purchasing and supply has given me exactly that. I’m also going on to study for CIPS, which is the professional qualification in purchasing and supply.

One of the notable things about Atos is that graduates have the opportunity to be involved in big projects straight away. In my first year, I’ve been managing key suppliers on one of Atos’ biggest government accounts. I‘ve worked with a wide range of people – from senior supply managers to technical architects, and even commercial directors.

I’ve also been part of a transformation project within supplier management, using best-in-class practice across the profession to create our new business manual. This has recently been released to our strategic suppliers and I supported the roll-out with our management team. From my involvement in this, I was also given the opportunity to run my own project to begin managing new suppliers.

If you’re looking for a graduate role that uses financial, analytical and leadership skills in a vibrant environment, I’d say this is definitely the supplier management role for you.
